I'm a stay-at-home mom whose adventure in urban homesteading and raising twin toddlers led me to seek a stronger community. Just a farm girl transplanted to the city, endeavoring to build something organic and meaningful.

I wanted a way to reconnect with something slower and more human: the tradition of women writing to one another.

Our Mission

At Root and Roost Letter Club, I believe childhood should include dirt under the fingernails, afternoons outdoors, homecooked meals, and practical skills. I believe small actions can make a big impact, and that humankind is better when we touch grass. I also know the journey can be lonely. Sometimes a person reaching out, even across a great distance, can edify and revitalize us.

The name reflects what we are trying to build.

Roots in the soil, in family traditions, and in practical skills that endure.

Roost as a place of gathering—where hens settle at dusk and people come together in community.

Maybe you live on a few acres, in town with backyard chickens, or in an apartment with an herb garden. Maybe you simply dream of a more grounded life. What unites us is a shared belief that we— and our children— thrive with freedom, responsibility, and real work. We're here to help you connect with others walking the same path. We believe childhood should be full of dirt under fingernails, long afternoons outdoors, small responsibilities that grow into real capability, and the quiet confidence that comes from learning by doing.

Root & Roost Letter Club is a circle of women writing to one another about the real things: gardens that failed, chicks that hatched, kids who built forts all afternoon, meals made from what was on hand, and the quiet satisfaction of doing life a little more deliberately.
